It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you Joe Frola passed away from a heart attack on Saturday. Joe’s family has a farm in Latrobe, PA where he was cutting down a tree (“work” Joe considered “fun”). He unexpectedly laid down and passed away.
As many of you may know, Joe and I had a decades-long personal and professional relationship. As a friend, he was somebody that has always been there for me and someone whose counsel I will miss, especially during challenging times. Professionally, Joe was pure genius around every aspect of our operations. His caring and personal connection with me and so many of the people within SCA was unmatched.
I have heard from many of you who have shared wonderful memories of Joe and I appreciate your condolences. I have passed your thoughts, prayers, and stories on to Joe’s mom and brother. I know this loss is hard news to hear, especially for all the employees Joe worked so closely with over the years.
Joe was a great man whose contributions to the people of SCA will be sorely missed.
-Christopher M. Valerian, Chief Executive Officer

- A custom JPF (Joseph P. Frola) decal will be placed on every vehicle in the SCA fleet to remember Joe’s commitment to safety, efficiency, and productivity.
- The highest company award presented at our annual Leadership Summit has been renamed The Joseph P. Frola Operational Excellence Award and is given to our District General Manager that was nominated and selected for overall operational performance.
- Joe had a knack for understanding our operations, and connecting in the most genuine manner with all levels of field operations, while communicating needs, desires, and results across every level of the business to ensure continued improvement as the industry leader.
